FIP- Is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus

Chester
Chester was one of six kittens, born the day his mother Lyra was trapped. He was raised by his mom for 7 weeks before his mom found her loving home. He thrived as a kitten, was affectionate and playful. Once he was about 10 months old, he was known for having a sensitive tummy occasionally, but was adopted out to a loving home with his 2 other brothers. He did not adapt as well to his new environment, he was stressed and timid. Unlike the outgoing boisterous tiger we raised, his brothers happily flourished. Unfortunately, unbeknown to us, Chester had been exposed to corona virus (FCoV) in utero. Corona virus in cats can be exhibited in many symptoms: intermittent soft stool, inappetence, picky eater, fever of unknown origin, runny nose, eye discharge, sneezing, overall malaise. With such a wide array of symptoms, it is easy to misinterpret. Chester passed away when the corona virus (FCoV) mutated and turned into FIP. He became emaciated with a pot belly filled of fluid, and refused food. Due to FDA regulations at the time getting life saving drugs were near impossible and most certainly illegal. Chester passed away surrounded by those who loved him. We promised him we would not fail any others, that we would learn from this experienced and be an advocate for educating owners, listening to symptoms, and above all diagnostic pre screening testing. Knowledge is power and we will use that power to save as many as we can! Chester will be forever missed and we thank him for the his love and the knowledge he gave us to save more lives.
